Adam Rosales was in Cleveland on paternity leave from Triple A when he got the news that he was rejoining the Rangers, news that could be trumped only by the birth of he and his wife’s first child.

His daughter, Juliet, was expected. Rosales had stopped waiting for a call to the big leagues after failing to make the roster out of spring training.

“I really wasn’t focused on that happening,” he said. “I was just enjoying palying every day and making adjustments, and focused on winning.”

The Rangers purchased Rosales’ contract and optioned rookie Luis Sardinas to Round Rock. Triple A right-hander Cory Burns was put on waivers to create a 40-man spot, and was quickly claimed by Tampa Bay.

Rosales played the infield corners more during his Triple A stay, and he will be Carlos Pena backup at first base. As a right-handed hitter, Rosales will face tough left-handed pitchers.

Donnie Murphy could play some at first, Washington said, but will be ahead of Rosales at third base. Rosales will back up Elvis Andrus at shortstop, and either he or Murphy will serve as the backup to second baseman Rougned Odor.

“I have more experience up the middle,” Rosales said. “I keep it simple on defense. Catch it, grip it and throw it across the diamond.”

Briefly

Adrian Beltre remained a distant second in All-Star balloting at third base, some 1.2 million votes behind Oakland’s Josh Donaldson. Players voted over the weekend, and that could get Beltre to the Midsummer Classic at Minnesota.

Tickets are still available for the Rangers sleepover and fireworks show Thursday at Globe Life Park. Fans can stay overnight on the playing field at Globe Life Park or just attend the fireworks show. Tickets are available at texasrangers.com/sleepover.
