Look into a mirror a couple hours after applying eye makeup and there’s a good chance that you might see that your eyeliner or mascara has gone rogue. Sporting smudges and looking like a version of the Joker, you reach for a tissue and try to carefully remove it.

Unfortunately, this often makes things worse. If you’re lucky enough to have makeup remover on hand, you might try that. But from my experience, it usually leaves behind a greasy patch of oil.

Fortunately, there’s a product out there that claims to make your makeup mistakes disappear in a matter of seconds. Made by e.l.f. Cosmetics, the Makeup Remover Pen is designed to remove or correct small makeup smudges, smears and mistakes (hello, cat eye gone wrong!) without having to take off the rest of your makeup.

As a bonus, the pen is also infused with vitamin E, cucumber and chamomile to moisturize and condition skin.

The Makeup Remover Pen retails for about $3 and can be purchased online at the e.l.f. Cosmetics website ( www.eyeslipsface.com) or wherever e.l.f. Cosmetics products are sold. I found my Makeup Remover Pen at Target, which carries a large selection of e.l.f. products.

First impressions

Until now, I have had only limited experience with e.l.f. Cosmetics. A couple years ago, I purchased some brushes and a cheek highlighter from the company’s website after hearing numerous beauty bloggers rave about the brand.

While I didn’t think the items I purchased were anything spectacular, I thought that for the price ($1 each) they were still quite decent in quality.

When I opened the Makeup Remover Pen, it reminded me of a Tide to Go stain removing pen because it looks like a marker with a white felt tip. I pinched the felt tip with my fingers to see if the formula that it was soaked in would bleed all over.

It didn’t, and the formula didn’t seem to be greasy either. To ensure that I had the pen with me at all times in case of a makeup mishap, I threw it in my purse and went about my daily business.

Fab or flub?

Fab! Just as it claimed to do, the e.l.f. Cosmetics Makeup Remover Pen removed my makeup mistakes with ease. I didn’t have to worry about it smudging my eye makeup more, and it didn’t leave behind a greasy residue.

After several uses, the pen’s white felt tip did become blackened with eyeliner and mascara. But just like it says on the packaging, I was able clean it off with just a tissue.

Overall, I found my whole experience with the product to be quite satisfactory and I would definitely keep it in my purse and gym bag.

I strongly urge you to make sure that you correctly snap the cap of the pen closed every time you use it. While I haven’t had any problems as of yet, I’ve seen a couple of reviews floating around online that mention the pen drying out in a matter of days.

Though most of the reviewers did not mention what they thought caused the pen to dry out, keeping the cap on correctly should help preserve the product.

Also, if you do decide to purchase the Makeup Remover Pen (or any e.l.f. Cosmetics products), make your purchase through the company’s website. The brand regularly runs 50 percent promos online.
