A 28-year-old Fort Worth man convicted of forcing a 3-year-old girl to perform oral sex on him was given two life sentences Thursday.

Phillip Gene Hernandez elected to have a judge decide his sentence rather than the jury, which took nine minutes to convict him Wednesday, a news release from the Tarrant County district attorney’s office says. The two life sentences assessed by state District Judge Louis Sturns will run concurrently, the release says.

Prosecutors Eric Nickols and Page Simpson presented evidence that Hernandez sexually abused the girl in summer 2012, the release says.

Fort Worth police began their investigation after the girl told a family friend that Hernandez hurt her bottom, the release says. The girl was examined at Cook Children’s Medical Center, the release says.

“No one in that courtroom will ever forget having to hear how a 3-year-old demonstrated oral sex on this defendant,” Nickols said. “The only person who wasn’t affected by it was him. He will have the rest of his life to reflect on it.”

Investigators said Hernandez went on a crime spree in November 2012 that included robbing a fast-food restaurant in Benbrook, burglarizing a residence twice and stealing two cars. When he was arrested, he had methamphetamine, the release says.
