A Crowley girl died late Wednesday from head injuries she suffered after falling off the trunk of a car, where she was riding because her bathing suit was wet.Octavia Watkins, 12, died at Cook Children’s Medical Center of blunt force trauma to the head, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website. Crowley police said she died at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday after being taken off life support.The girl was one of four children injured June 17 after they fell from the back of the moving car in the 400 block of Angler Drive in Crowley, about 15 minutes from downtown Fort Worth.Crowley police have said the children were riding outside the car because their swimsuits were wet.Kisha Young, the 38-year-old driver and the mother of some of the children, was arrested and faces charges of intoxication assault with a vehicle/serious bodily injury, injury to a child with serious bodily injury and driving while intoxicated with a child under 15. She was released on bail.Crowley police said Thursday that they are working with the Tarrant County district attorney’s office to determine whether additional charges will be filed.Emergency crews were dispatched to the incident about 8:30 p.m. June 17. Crowley police said six children ages 8 to 14 had been riding on the Chevy Malibu’s trunk and hood after leaving the Creekside of Crowley community pool.“Officers were advised that the driver and passenger of the vehicle [the mothers of the children] allowed the children to ride outside the vehicle because their clothes were wet,” the department said in a news release.Young was arrested after failing a field sobriety test. Blood was also drawn and police are still awaiting blood alcohol level results, said C.C. Meadows, public information officer for Crowley police.Three of the children were taken by ambulance to Cook Children’s Medical Center, where they were later released.
