Baylor’s nonconference men’s basketball schedule will include a Thanksgiving Day game against Memphis in Las Vegas, a road game at Vanderbilt and a home game with former Big 12 foe Texas A&M, the school announced Wednesday.

Baylor will play eight nonconference games. A ninth might be added at a later date.

Baylor opens the season at home on Nov. 14 against McNeese State.

The Bears will play Memphis on Nov. 27 as part of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational. They play Dec. 4 at Vanderbilt as part of the ESPN SEC/Big 12 Challenge and host Texas A&M on Dec. 9.

Oklahoma expansion

The University of Oklahoma board of regents approved a $370 million upgrade to the Sooners’ football stadium on Wednesday.

The plan calls for filling the corners of the south end zone of Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, relocating athletic offices currently housed in the north end zone and building a new weight room, equipment room, team area and coaches’ offices.

Beer for SMU

SMU has decided to allow beer sales at football games after similar offerings this year at basketball games.

Athletic department spokesman Brad Sutton said Wednesday the plan is to sell beer at Gerald R. Ford Stadium starting this fall. Alcohol is already permitted in stadium luxury suites.

Award nominees

TCU outfielder Dylan Fitzgerald and Texas pitcher John Curtiss, from Southlake Carroll, are among nominees for the 2013-14 Big 12 Male Sportsperson of the Year.

Equestrian athlete Alexi Child was TCU’s nominee for Female Sportsperson of the Year, and Aledo’s Whitney Canion, a standout softball pitcher, was Baylor’s nominee.

The award is given to individuals who exhibit examples of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, citizenship and academic achievement. The winners will be announced Thursday today.
