The first mosquitoes to test positive for the West Nile virus this year were collected recently in Benbrook, the Tarrant County Public Health department reported Wednesday.

In response, the city of Benbrook scheduled spraying for mosquitoes overnight Thursday in a half-mile radius of the 8200 block of Circle S Road in north Benbrook. Spraying is to begin at 11 p.m. and continue into Friday morning, weather permitting.

No human cases of the virus have been reported.

Since mosquito sampling began on April 1, the public health department has tested 1,377 samples at its lab.
