Weatherford Swim Team represents well at home meet after long break

After a 10 month hiatus, the City of Weatherford Parks and Recreation Swim Team finally returned to the pool to compete in the first swim meet of the year.

On June 13, teams participating included the Granbury Seals, Mineral Wells Water Moccasins, Stephenville Stingrays, Burleson Barracudas and the Weatherford Water Roos. While official team scores are not kept, placement in the meet can be determined with the meet’s Medal Count.

Team medal counts in gold, silver, bronze and overall were as follows:

Granbury - 59, 34, 33, 126

Weatherford - 20, 21, 14, 55

Stephenville - 10, 11, 8, 29

Mineral Wells - 5, 4, 3, 12

Burleson - 0, 1, 0, 1

Swimmers finishing with at least one first place finish on Friday included: Micah Calderon, Jeremiah Carlson, Will Cowan, Addison Greenfield, Luke Hamilton, Bryant Huggins, Gabby Huggins, Julia Huggins, Abbie Lane, Kim Lawler, Abby Morrison, Travis Prince, John Russum, Emily Wahlenmaier, Steve Wood and Dylan Wright.

Swimmers finishing with a top five in at least one of their events include: Raviyah Anderson, Shelby Anderson, Chandler Buchfink*, Katelyn Cowan, Landry Crickman*, Justin Cummings, Claire Dale*, Addison Feriend, Aaron Greenfield*, Asher Feriend*, Luke Hamilton, Colin Hedges, Brennan Holyfield, Allie Lane*, Camille Lapp*, Isabel Lawler, Olivia Lawler, Jackson McGlasson*, Ty Miller, Sam Novak, Kaleb Oestreich*, John Opella, Kylei Stewart, Rebecca Tague, Aislyn Wright and Hannah Wright.

Swimmers placing in the top 10 of at least one event include: Preston Anderson*, Marifer Davila*, Eagan Dennett, Hunter Donahue, Matthew Gum, Carter Hedges*, Amanda Lacey, Hailey Maloy, Alyssa Oestreich*, Emily Porter*, Chloe Rutkowski and Zoe Sansom*.

Other top Weatherford performers include: Emma Kincaid, Bridget Lapp*, Reagan Lee*, Jocelyn Medrano, Mackenzie Moore*, Claire Nowell*, Lea Patrick and Sydney Wolfenberger.

Weatherford returns several state qualifiers from last year, while adding many promising new swimmers to an already stout roster. Looking to make a return trip to the State Championship Meet this year are Morrison, Aislyn Wright, Gabby Huggins, Luke Hamilton, Dylan Wright, Jeremiah Carlson, Joe Carlson, Prince, Russum, Wahlenmaier, and Tyler Sievert. Weatherford traveled to Burleson Saturday and returns to familiar water Friday evening for the final home swim meet.

The Weatherford Swim Team is coached by Sievert and Linda Williams.
