Bestselling author Karin Slaughter keeps her latest, Cop Town, in the Georgia neighborhood, but with a twist.

Her new standalone thriller is set in Atlanta — just like her bestselling series featuring Will Trent, an agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (2013’s Unseen was the seventh novel). Her Grant County series features Dr. Sara Linton, a pediatrician/coroner, from fictitious Heartsdale in rural Georgia.

Cop Town travels back to the South of the 1970s when times are changing and the Atlanta Police Department is reluctant to change with them. Misogyny, discrimination and racism are rampant. In the midst of turmoil at the APD (women and African-Americans are being hired on the force), there’s a cop killer on the loose.

Slaughter sends two young female police officers — Maggie, a four-year officer from a family of cops, and Kate, a rookie on her first day on the job — into the fray. They’re paired as partners and work together — despite dealing with the APD good ol’ boy network — to try to unravel the mystery of who The Shooter is.
