The Fort Worth Cats scored two runs in the sixth, eighth and ninth innings to turn a three-run deficit into an 8-5 victory over the San Angelo Colts in a United League Baseball game Friday night.

With the Cats trailing 5-4 with two outs in the eighth inning, center fielder Oscar Garcia singled in two runs to put Fort Worth ahead to stay.

The Cats (14-16) endured an hour-long rain delay in the third inning to win the game and take sole possession of second place.

San Angelo (11-14) built a 5-2 lead with three consecutive two-out hits in the fourth inning against Cats starter Nick Thornton.

The Cats cut into the lead in the sixth when first baseman Adam Kam doubled to left-center field, driving in two.

In the top of the eighth, Matthew Chavez led off with a single against Colts reliever and former Cat Jeff Sakowski. One out later, Ryan Lashley doubled Chavez to third. After the second out, Garcia singled in both runners.

Fort Worth added two insurance runs in the ninth on Lashley's two-out single.

Cats’ starter Nick Thornton went six innings, giving up five runs on 11 hits. Reliever Chase Johnson pitched a shutout inning of relief and earned the win. Closer Ben Ruff came on in the eighth and got the two-inning, six-out save, his fourth save of the season.

The Cats and Colts play game five of the six-game series at 7:15 p.m. Saturday at Foster Field.

Fort Worth returns home to LaGrave Field for a five-game series with the last-place Brownsville Charros (10-17) at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. Tickets to all home games can be purchased by calling (817) 332-CATS or by going online to FWCats.com.
