A deal on a beach retreat

Bolongo Bay Beach Resort on St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, celebrates its 40th anniversary with a 40 percent end-of-summer discount on the regular rate of an ocean-view room for stays during August or September. The discounted August room rate is $234.64 and the September room rate is $218.49, including tax and service charge. However, stays must be booked by June 30, and the anniversary rate cannot be combined with other offers. The resort offers free non-motorized watersports for guests and affordable recreational rentals for day guests seeking windsurfers, Hobie Cats, stand-up paddle boards and snorkeling gear. American citizens do not need a passport to visit St. Thomas. For reservations, call 800-524-4746. For more details, visit

Gear: For camping familes

6-in-1 Grill Daddy camping and tailgating grill set

The good: A camper or traveler, with a little practice, can quickly and easily assemble the tools — a spatula, a fork, a spoon and tongs — for whatever grilling task is called for. Though the disassembled kit is compact, the elements themselves are not miniaturized. The spatula face, for example, is a hefty 4-by-5 1/4 inches, and with the provided extensions the tools are full size. The heat shield also is a valuable asset. The stainless-steel utensils are dishwasher safe.

The bad: The inner lining of the nylon case is a bit thin; ours tore slightly after several uses. But that is minor.

Cost: $39.99
