OAKLAND, Calif. Next up in the leadoff spot for the Texas Rangers is Daniel Robertson, who on Monday replaced Leonys Martin in the opener of a three-game series against division-leading Oakland.

Martin, a left-handed hitter, was on the bench because the A’s are starting a left-hander. Robertson is the choice over fellow right-handed hitter Michael Choice, who had been batting first. With another lefty starting Tuesday for the A’s, Robertson could get two straight starts.

“He takes pitches,” manager Ron Washington said. “He doesn’t swing at too much out of the zone. He stays within himself. He’ll make solid contact.”

Shin-Soo Choo is getting a day at designated hitter to help his ailing left ankle.
