Piano students perform spring recital

Piano students of Harriet A. Motter and their families and friends presented a spring awards recital. The program featured selections from classic piano literature composers and contemporary composers Timothy Brown and Lynn F. Olson. After the recital, awards for the year were presented. An International piano guild certificate and pin was received by Emma Tung (15 pieces) and Kyra Ullman (20 pieces). Her program included Sonata K545 by Mozart, as well as her own prize winning original composition, “Summer Dreams”– the fifth-grade second-place winner in the Texas Music Teachers State original composition competition and state and regional winner for the National Federation of Music Clubs.

Kyra will perform this at the June Texas Music Teachers Convention and will also join the Fort Worth Music Teachers Ensemble group performing “Two Piano Rondo” by Howard Pancost.

Guest performers were Mickey Legg, who played a piano Clementi Sonatina accompanied by Motter. Hayley Ullman played a bassoon solo and a violin solo, both accompanied by Kyra Ullman.

National 10 piece guild program certificates were presented to William Meshack III and Brennan Trussell. Piano guild duet certificates were presented to Kyra Ullman, Karen Shugart and Mickey Legg. Karen Shugart was awarded a Hobbyist Piano Guild certificate, and Benjamin and Evan Shugart were recital performers.

Student affiliate theory medals were earned by Brennan Trussell and Emma Tung, - (Silver) ; and Kyra Ullman (Gold). Texas State World of Music medals were earned by Brennan Trussell and Kyra Ullman. Outstanding Musicianship Trophy Awards from the Arlington Music Teachers Association were earned by Brennan Trussell, Emma Tung and Kyra Ullman. Critics Circle Ratings from the National Piano Guild was earned by Kyra Ullman.

After the presentation of awards, a reception was held honoring the students. Special guests were parents, grandparents, teachers and many extended family members of all the performers. Assisting as recital hosts were Beverly and Gary Blodgett, Edith Tung and Sunghee Ullman. Pete Ullman was the recital photographer.
