Defending NCAA long jump champion Lorraine Ugen of TCU came up short in her bid to repeat Wednesday at the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Ugen, a junior from London, finished fourth in the finals, with a mark of 21 feet even. Jenna Prandini of Oregon won the national title with a leap of 21-6. Sha’Keela Saunders of Kentucky was second at 21-4 1/4 on her first jump and Kyle Price of UCLA was third with the same mark on her fifth attempt.

Ugen won the indoor national championship in March with a jump of 22-1.

Baylor freshman Trayvon Bromell advanced to Friday’s finals in the 100 meters with the top prelim time of 9.92 seconds. UT Arlington’s Clayton Vaughn also advanced to the finals. Vaughn was one of three runners with the third fastest time of 10.12. TCU’s Ronnie Baker ran a 10.74 and failed to qualify.

Texas A&M advanced to the finals in the 4x100 relay, with the fastest qualifying time (38.60). TCU was 10th in 39.52 and failed to qualify. UTA also missed the cut in 39.60.

The TCU women’s 4x100 relay team failed to make the finals after finishing in 44.92. USC had the top time of 43.08, followed by Florida (43.26), Texas A&M (43.44) and Texas (43.69).

UT’s Ryan Crouser won the men’s shot put with a toss of 69 feet, 3 1/2 inches, and teammate Johannes Hock led in the decathlon after Day 1 with 4,243 points, 20 points ahead of Wisconsin’s Zach Ziemek.

Ibaka to OSU

Thunder forward Serge Ibaka’s younger brother, Igor, will play for Oklahoma State. Dustin Grover, Igor’s coach at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, said that Igor plans to get his associate’s degree within the next year, then enroll at Oklahoma State in time to play during the 2015-16 season.

He will not play JUCO ball next season because he will be past the age limit. He turns 22 in July. As a freshman last season, the 6-foot-8 center was an All-Region selection after averaging 13.7 points and 9.6 rebounds and shooting 64 percent from the field.

LSU safety arrested

LSU starting safety Jalen Mills has been indefinitely suspended from the football team after the junior’s arrest on a battery charge early Wednesday morning. A probable cause document states that a woman said Mills punched her in the mouth on May 4 in his apartment. She said she fell to the ground and was briefly unconscious.

Mills was contacted by police on May 29 and he told them he was in Houston and would return to Baton Rouge on June 9. A June 10 appointment was set for Mills to meet with the police, but he did not make the meeting.

Fla. assistant resigns

Florida receivers coach Joker Phillips has resigned, prompting coach Will Muschamp to turn the job over to former Gators quarterback Chris Leak. Phillips said in a statement that he stepped down for “personal reasons.”
