“It’s been a long haul,” said Mark Harris, chief executive officer of Maxim Management Group, as ground was broken on a new rehabilitation facility in Weatherford.

“It’s been more than a year-and-a-half coming together to make this happen,” he said to a crowd of dignitaries on Thursday.

With dirt work underway at the former site of the Parker County American Legion, 703 Eureka Street, construction will soon begin on the first free-standing inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Weatherford.

The 27,000 square foot hospital will add 26 beds to the network of inpatient rehabilitation facilities throughout Texas and Louisiana owned and operated by Maxim Management.

“It’s been a fun and educational process,” Harris said. “We are excited to be bringing a state-of-the-art inpatient rehabilitation hospital to Weatherford.”

In a press release, Harris said patients had to travel to Fort Worth for this type of care in the past so there was a great need for a local facility like this, especially with the growing population of seniors.

“Weatherford Rehabilitation Hospital will offer patients comprehensive medical rehabilitation services, including physical, occupational, respiratory and speech therapy. Patients will also be able to receive care for a variety of conditions, such as a stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, and many other debilitating disorders,” he added.

The hospital will have 120 people on staff and is less than half a mile from the Weatherford Regional Medical Center and approximately 29 miles from Fort Worth. The hospital will be Joint Commission (JCAHO) accredited and is expected to open in the first quarter of 2015.

Dennis Clayton, Executive Director of the Weatherford Economic Development Authority said they are excited to see the start of construction on the new healthcare facility.

“This new inpatient rehab hospital will add a needed specialty-service to our local healthcare resources,” Clayton said. “The Economic Development Board and city council are pleased to have worked with Maxim and help facilitate this new project. The economic impact of the project is significant with the new construction, redevelopment of an existing site, and over 100 new well paid healthcare jobs.”
