ARLINGTON — Bowling is coming to The Parks mall.A leading Japanese bowling center chain has picked The Parks at Arlington for its first U.S. location outside California.Round1 Bowling & Amusement has leased about 70,000 square feet of space at the mall, off Interstate 20 and Cooper Street in south Arlington, a location formerly used by apparel retailer Steve & Barry. A company executive said the entertainment center is scheduled to be completed in October.Round1 will feature at least 24 bowling lanes, an arcade floor with more than 300 games, pingpong tables and billiards, darts, karaoke and a food court and bar, said Shane Kaji, senior vice president of business development for the company’s U.S. subsidiary. Round1 operates three entertainment centers in malls in California: the Moreno Valley Mall, Lakewood Center Mall and Puente Hills Mall in City of Industry. “We want to expand in general,” Kaji said. “Texas has a lot of opportunities.” The Parks location, near the mall’s ice rink and AMC theater, will be its largest center so far, Kaji said. The company also plans to open a location this year at the Stratford Square Mall in Bloomingdale, Ill., northwest of Chicago.Kaji said the arcade area will be a huge draw.“A company from Japan has the luxury of offering all the newest technologies of the Asian market and the domestic market,” he said.The Parks location will employ 50 to 60 full- and part-time employees, he said. Plans call for the center to be open daily from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.Round One Corp., based in Sakai, Japan, and founded in 1980, is a publicly traded company that has grown to more than 110 locations in Japan.
