The man who drowned Sunday in Lewisville Lake has been identified by the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office as Michael Collins, 43, of The Colony.

Although no manner or cause of death has yet been listed, the medical examiner said that Collins died at 4:25 p.m. Sunday about 150 yards east of the shoreline at West Lake Park off Lewisville Lake.

Collins was reported missing about 3:40 p.m. Sunday near the party cove, said Capt. Cliff Swofford of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

“He went out swimming for an object and the winds kept pushing it out,” Swofford said. “He was not wearing a life jacket.”

A dive team using sonar found Collins’ body on the lake bottom just over an hour after he was reported missing.

This is the second drowning this year at Lewisville Lake, said Lt. Jennifer Kemp, a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department spokeswoman.

There have been 35 deaths on Texas lakes in 2014 — seven have been boating related, and 28 have been drownings, Kemp said.
