Legacy swimmer Madison Yelle is no stranger to success in the pool, as she qualified for the state meet in three different events.

Yelle received an even bigger honor recently when she signed to swim next school year at Nova Southeastern University in Florida.

Legacy coach Tony Tullbane said this is a great opportunity for his senior swimmer and said that the contributions that Yelle has made to the Legacy program have been immeasurable.

“Her positive attitude and leadership for the team are the biggest things,” Tullbane said. “To be able to make it to state two years in four separate events, it just shows her level of commitment to the team.”

Yelle's event was a regional finalist in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, and Yelle said that swimming at Legacy has meant a lot to her.

“It's been great swimming at Legacy, because when I started out there, it was still a pretty new school,” Yelle said.

“I felt like I kind of got to set the ground for years to come. So that was nice, and getting to know everyone on the team and getting to learn from the leadership of the older kids really shaped how I was able to interact with the younger kids on the team now.”

Yelle said there are a few things she hopes her presence on the team meant to her teammates.

“I would like to be remembered as someone who was able to be a great leader,” Yelle said. “And someone who had a positive attitude and made it more fun.”

Yelle said she chose Nova Southeastern because she wants to study marine biology and be able to swim, so “that was a great school that had the things that I wanted.”

Tullbane said that Yelle will definitely be missed at Legacy High School and said that he believes she is a good fit with Nova Southeastern University.

“Oh my God, she's going to be fantastic for them,” Tullbane said. “That's the great thing is that she's going to go to a team where she's instantly going to be important for them. She's going to be scoring at their meets, scoring at their conference meets.

“She's going to instantly contribute to their success,” Tullbane added. “You can't ask for much more than that – to go some place and be an important part of their team.”
