No. 18 was a source of both joy and disappointment for 2014 Crown Plaza Invitational at Colonial runner-up Jason Dufner.

To end his day in regulation Sunday, Dufner made a 25-foot birdie putt to place him at 9 under and tied for the lead with Adam Scott.

Dufner played No. 18 two more times in what would be a three-hole playoff with the eventual champion, Scott.

Dufner said he played equally as well through the first two playoff holes, but ultimately he was outplayed by Scott’s second shot on the third.

Scott hit a pitching wedge, which placed him 7 feet, 3 inches from the pin. His next shot would win him his first plaid jacket.

“I had a good feel for it, obviously, because I hit the shot just 10 minutes beforehand, and pulled my aim in a little bit from the last time around and just had a much calmer swing,” Scott said.

Through regulation, Dufner was 1 under at 18 while Scott was even par.

The hole ranked tied for 11th with a scoring average of 3.99 in the final round, with 13 birdies and eight bogeys.
