Body of missing boater recovered in Lewisville Lake

Divers found the body of a missing man Sunday who apparently tried to swim to shore after his boat began to sink in Lewisville Lake, authorities said.

The victim was identified as Blake Long, 31, of Little Elm, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website on Sunday.

Divers with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department found Long’s body shortly before 11:30 a.m.

He and a woman had been on a boat Friday night when it began to take on water, said Capt. Clifford Swofford with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department on Sunday. The woman called 911 shorty after 8 p.m. on Friday.

“The operator advised them to put on their life jackets,” Swofford said Sunday. “The woman did, but for some reason, the man didn’t. He also jumped into the water and swam away from the boat and that’s the last time he was seen.”

Divers with the Lewisville Fire Department and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department searched Saturday, but they had to to curtail the effort because of heavy boat traffic.

Divers returned to the lake on Sunday and found Long’s body using sonar equipment.
