Aledo ex Canion helps Baylor reach softball World Series

Whitney Canion gave up eight hits and five walks but held Georgia to three runs, helping visiting Baylor top Georgia 6-3 on Saturday and advance to its third softball World Series in seven years.

The former Aledo star threw 169 pitches in improving her record to 31-10 this season.

The Bears (47-14) trailed 3-2 in the fifth inning but scored two runs in the fifth and added two more in the sixth to pull away.

Linsey Hays hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning, and the Bulldogs committed three errors in the sixth as the Bears scored two more runs.

The Women’s College World Series begins Thursday in Oklahoma City.
