Mansfield Legacy wasted a strong effort by starting pitcher Blake Wilson on Friday, losing 1-0 to Prosper at Dallas Baptist University.

The loss ties the Class 4A Region II semifinal series at one game each, with the decisive third contest scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday at DBU. Legacy fell to 28-11 for the season, while Prosper upped its record to 29-11-1.

“The game had a lot of great defensive plays on both sides of the ball,” said Legacy coach David Walden. “We hit the ball on the button several times and they made plays. Our guy ran into the fence to make a catch. It was just a great high school baseball game.”

Legacy managed only four hits off Prosper starter Dom Yearego (13-1).

The Broncos got a single in each of the last four innings but never capitalized. One rally was halted when a Legacy runner stole second but overslid the base on the DBU all-turf field. Strong defensive plays by Prosper ended the other three threats.

Prosper rallied in the bottom of the second with two outs.

Three singles followed by a walk scored one run and loaded the bases, but Wilson (7-3) got out of the inning when he got Prosper leadoff hitter Steele Walker to fly out. The four consecutive batters were the only Prosper players to reach base in the game.

“Blake pitched a great game,” said Walden. “We’ve got to give him more support. He’s pitched 16 innings his last two times out and just given up three runs, but we scored just one for him.”
