Thirty people were displaced and one person was injured trying to escape an apartment fire in east Fort Worth late Thursday.

Firefighters were alerted by multiple calls about 10 p.m. When they arrived, heavy smoke was pouring from an apartment building in the 7600 block of Courtney Drive, a news release from the Fort Worth Fire Department said.

Fire vented through the roof and quickly spread through the attic, the release said. One person suffered a cut jumping a fence while trying to get away. Eight apartment units were destroyed, the release said.

Firefighters were ordered from the interior of the building as the blaze compromised the integrity of the structure, fire official said.

The fire was extinguished about 11:30 p.m. The cause is under investigation, the release said.
