A 49-year-old man suspected of fatally shooting a 62-year-old woman, then turning the gun on himself, had previously assaulted and threatened a female roommate, telling the woman, “I will slit your throat, and we’ll both be dead tonight,” according to a police report.Aldin Falatovic was sentenced to 30 days in jail in October for the attack on his 52-year-old roommate, court records show.Falatovic and 62-year-old Sandra Whitehall were found shot shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday inside Whitehall’s apartment in the 5900 block of Calloway Drive South in far west Fort Worth.Whitehall was pronounced dead at the scene. Falatovic was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.Homicide Sgt. Joe Loughman said that while police are awaiting a ruling by the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office, investigators suspect that Falatovic shot Whitehall before shooting himself. The two had been dating. What prompted the shooting is unknown, he said.In Falatovic’s previous assault case, his roommate told police that she and Falatovic had lived in the same residence for approximately three months but had been friends for about three years. She said she had allowed Falatovic to live with her in the past but that the two had never dated. The victim told police that she and Falatovic began to argue in the kitchen on the evening of Oct. 6 after she asked Falatovic to return her truck key.She said Falatovic, who had been drinking alcohol, pulled her hair and struck her head against a wall. He then put his hand around her throat and began to squeeze, cutting off her breathing and leaving her fearful that she was going to die, she told police.“I will slit your throat, and we’ll both be dead tonight,” he told her, according to the police report. The woman told police that Falatovic let go of her throat but continued to hold her hair. She told police she believed that he was attempting to grab a knife from the butcher block. She “stated that she believed that he would kill her. [She] stated that Aldin was from Bosnia during a war, and that he ‘has killed before,’ ” the police report states. When Falatovic let her go, the woman told police, she ran to a neighbor’s house but no one answered the door. She then got into her car and drove off.Officers noted that the crying woman had visible redness on her neck and chest area. She refused medical treatment, the report stated. Police found Falatovic, smelling of alcohol, outside at the back of the house. He told officers that he and his roommate had only had a verbal argument and the woman wanted to kick him out of the house. He told police he was willing to leave but wanted the $200 he had recently paid for rent. Falatovic was arrested at the scene after he was unable to finish his statement to police due to his level of intoxication, the report states. In addition to his assault conviction, Tarrant County court records show that Falatovic was also sentenced to 30 days in jail in October 2012 for a misdemeanor conviction of driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol level greater than 0.15.
