NFL owners on Tuesday tabled discussion of expanding the playoffs to 14 teams until they meet again in the fall.

But Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones left no doubt that he favors adding more teams to the current playoff format because doing so would provide an opportunity for his team to return to the postseason for the first time since 2009.

“I am pleased that we’re looking at expanding the playoffs,” Jones told reporters at the owners meetings in Atlanta. “I think what a playoff means to a team and to a city is unquestioned. Now, from the Cowboys’ standpoint, maybe it will give us a better chance to be in the playoffs, so I’m an easy vote on this one.

“Seriously, I think it really enhances what we’re always trying to do, and that’s fan interest.”

Even if the league had added two teams to the playoffs the past four seasons, it would haven’t made a difference for Dallas.

The Cowboys finished 6-10 in 2010 and 8-8 in each of the past three seasons and would not have qualified under an expanded format.

In other developments:

• The Cowboys signed seventh-round draft pick Ken Bishop, defensive tackle from Northern Illinois.

• Jones will be honored with the Pop Warner Lifetime Achievement Award on May 24 at the 54th annual Pop Warner All-American Scholastic Banquet in Orlando, Fla.

TCU ex to Titans

Former TCU running back Waymon James signed with the Tennessee Titans on Monday. James participated in the Titans’ recent rookie minicamp on a tryout basis and earned a contract.
