You mentioned in a recent article that Van Cliburn was one of three Americans who had won the coveted Tchaikovsky pianist prize.

Another Tchaikovsky finalist lives in Texas. In 1966, eight years after Cliburn won, James Dick finished tied for fifth.

A Kansas product, he attended the University of Texas. He won a slew of prizes and created a music camp at Round Top, Texas.

His 74th birthday is June 29.
