Canion leads Baylor

Former Aledo star Whitney Canion pitched in both games and threw 305 pitches, leading Baylor to the NCAA Super Regional with a 3-1 victory over Tulsa in the second game of the Waco Regional on Sunday.

Canion threw 175 pitches in the opener before giving up a solo home run to Catherine Hoerner in a 1-0 loss in the opener, which forced the deciding third game.

In the second game, Canion started again and gave up a run in the first inning. But she did not give up another run the rest of the way.

Canion gave up eight hits, but walked just one and struck out nine.

For the day, Canion threw 171/3 innings, gave up two runs, 14 hits, two walks and struck out 19.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pitcher do what Whitney Canion did,” Baylor coach Glenn Moore said. “I don’t know how, but it was amazing.”

Also advancing to the super regionals was Oklahoma, which beat Texas A&M 11-6 in the Norman Regional.

Texas fell to Louisiana Lafayette 10-1 in the Lafayette Regional.
