The Trophy Club Nelson Bobcats scored 17 unanswered runs for a 17-7 run-rule victory over No. 1-ranked Cleburne in Game 2 of a best-of-three Class 4A regional quarterfinal series on Friday at Arlington Heights High School.

Game 3 is scheduled for noon Saturday at Fort Worth Arlington Heights.

In Game 2, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, heading into the bottom of the third inning. Cleburne (27-4-1) scored five runs in the second, including five runs on only two hits. A throwing error by Nelson resulted in three of the Yellow Jackets’ runs.

Cleburne added two more runs in the third, highlighted by Tyler Fowler’s solo home run, his second homer in as many nights.

But the wheels fell off for the Jackets from there.

Nelson (20-15-1), which improved to 4-0 in elimination games this postseason, responded with an eight-run third inning to take the lead and take control.

Nelson’s Bryan Seamster came on in relief of Bobcats starter Alex Johnston in the third and was close to perfect. Seamster (7-1) shut down Cleburne to earn the victory. He allowed only two hits in 2 2/3 innings and struck out five.

Reed Sherman had a two-run single with the bases loaded to get the Nelson rally started in the third. With the Bobcats trailing 7-4, Tanner Mitchell hit a bases-loaded triple to tie the game at 7. Alex Gigliotti gave Nelson the lead on an RBI single.

Nelson continued to pour it on in the fourth. After Kevin Lentzner was hit by a pitch, Chase Collins hit a two-run home run for the 10-7 lead. The Bobcats added another run on Briton Schiewe’s RBI double.

Nelson completed the run-rule win in the bottom of the fifth when Gabe Luna scored the game-clinching run on a wild pitch with the bases loaded.

Collins went 3 for 4 with four RBIs, and Mitchell went 2 for 2 with a walk and three RBIs.
