More machines

Lots of discussion going on about whether raising the minimum wage to $10.10/hour will cost jobs.

The Congressional Budget Office says it will be at least 500,000. That may be a low estimate.

I dropped into a Jack in the Box in the medical district around noon last week and saw a line of high school kids ordering and paying for their orders using a machine that looked like an overgrown smartphone.

The few people behind the counter were mostly just passing out the machine orders and taking care of a few old fogies like me.

That machine doesn’t get healthcare, take vacations, get sick leave or get paid time-and-a-half for overtime.

If the minimum wage gets raised, I suspect I am going to see a lot more of those machines.
