Tarleton State gets another game against West Texas A&M in the NCAA Division II baseball playoffs after defeating the Buffaloes on Sunday to claim its first Lone Star Conference tournament championship.

The Texans, the No. 5 seed in the South Central Regional, will play West Texas A&M at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Mesa, Colo.

“The kids did a great job this weekend,” Tarleton State coach Bryan Conger said after his team captured the LSC crown on Sunday. “When you are in a situation like this, you just go to your guys and ask them to give everything they can give you and what they did was amazing.”

The Texans and Buffs are meeting for the third time in the last seven days. Tarleton won both meetings in the LSC tournament and has won the last four meetings dating to the regular season.

The first-round meeting will feature a pitching rematch of Tarleton’s Robert Baker and West Texas A&M’s Dylan James, the LSC pitcher of the year.

Baker earned the win May 8 in the LSC first-round meeting, giving up three earned runs and striking out five in 6 2/3 innings to improve to 7-6. James pitched five innings, striking out seven and limiting the Texans to an earned run before his bullpen gave up seven runs.
