While severe weather moved across North Texas on Monday, some of the preparations for the Byron Nelson Championship took a toll.

A video board in the pavilion area fell over due to strong winds. No one was injured.

Director of communications Tracy Cobb said the board was in the process of being rebuilt Tuesday.

Besides the video board, Cobb said the only other casualties from the storm were large branches, which kept the course grounds crew busy throughout the day.

Bae’s new home

After his win at the Nelson last year, the first of his career, Sang-Moon Bae, in what seemed to be an excited joke, said he would think about moving to North Texas.

Last month, he made that “joke” a reality, moving into an apartment about five minutes from the Four Seasons Resort.

In that short time, he has made the TPC Las Colinas his primary practice facility and has been on the course four or five times leading up to this year’s tournament.

“I really like it here,” he said. “Not really great weather, but I like this city, the people, everything.”

Field tweaks

Eric Axley, Chris Smith and Alex Cejka were late additions to the field Tuesday, taking the places of D.H. Lee, Pat Perez and Patrick Reed, who all withdrew.

Reed said he chose to remain home with his wife, who is nearing her due date with the couple’s child.

Smith will be making his 11th appearance in the tournament. His best finish was in 2004, tied for 27th.

Axley will make his fifth appearance this week. His top finish was a tie for 13th in 2008.

Dramatic qualifier

Case Cochran, a former Texas A&M golfer, made a hole-in-one on the fifth playoff hole in Tuesday’s rain-delayed qualifier in Lewisville to claim the last of four available spots in Thursday’s opening round.

Cochran, who posted a 69 to reach the sudden-death playoff, aced the 16th hole at The Lakes at Castle Hills with a 7-iron from 152 yards. That secured a berth in the Nelson field along with Will Strickler (68), the medalist at the qualifier. Two other qualifiers, Jason Allred and Chris Thompson, each shot 69.

Pro-Am notables

Headlining the amateur field for today’s Pro-Am is former University of Texas football coach Mack Brown. His group will tee off at 8:30 a.m. on the 1st hole.

Former Dallas mayor and current U.S. trade representative Ron Kirk will tee off at 2:10 p.m. from the 1st hole, playing with pro Robert Garrigus.
