Timberview’s softball season will continue at least through the regional semifinals after the Lady Wolves disposed of Lewisville in two games.Getting clutch hits moved the Lady Wolves to the next round where they’ll face Richland. The series begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Timberview, with Game 2 at the same time Friday at Richland. A deciding Game 3 would be played if needed at 11 a.m. Saturday at Timberview.Timberview picked up 3-1 and 11-9 wins over the Farmers, but the biggest news may be how they did it.Standout pitcher, Mariah Denson left before the final out in the first game and didn’t throw in Game 2.Denson tweaked an ankle and was held out of further action. Her progress will be evaluated as the week progresses, said head coach Donya Mooney. “It’s just too early to tell,” she said of the ankle’s status on Sunday afternoon.Fellow sophomore Mayriah Brown picked up the win for Timberview in the 11-9 victory. “She showed a lot of heart and determination, especially in pressure situations and extenuating circumstances,” said Mooney of Brown.Brown has been a part of the lineup often during the season, and has pitched in six games, according to Mooney’s recollection. But it was another clutch hit – this time a 2 RBI hit by Maddie Munoz – that broke the 9-9 tie for Timberview in the top of the seventh inning to seal the series win for Timberview.“She’s been clutch all year,” said Mooney of her first baseman and four-year starter Munoz. “She battled with two strikes and two outs and had 5-6 fouls and came through with the hit. When the game is on the line, you hope she’s at the plate.”Ashley Timmons also had a solid showing at the plate for Timberview, as she belted triples in each game.Mooney said solid defense helped back Denson and Brown in the two wins, as they dispensed of the Class 5A defending state champions. Now, the focus turns to Richland, a quarterfinals winner over Midland.Richland, after losing the first game, 2-0, notched a 7-1 win in the second game over Midland and had to score three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out a 12-11 win and seal the series in Game 3.Should the Lady Wolves get past Richland, Timberview would then look for a state tournament bid in the regional finals against the winner of Flower Mound and Lubbock Coronado.
