DeSoto man drowns in Joe Pool Lake

A DeSoto man who swam after a flotation device for a famly member drowned Saturday night at Joe Pool Lake, authorities said.

Grand Prairie police identified him as David Orozco, 44, whose body was found about two hours after he disappeared in the water.

It was the first drowning at the lake this year, authorities said.

Grand Prairie police and firefighters responded to a call reporting a possible drowning about 8 p.m. Saturday at the swimming beach area on the Cedar Hill side of the lake.

Using underwater sonar tracking, the Grand Prairie Public Safety dive team found Orozco’s body about 10 p.m.

The victim was not wearing a life jacket, authorities said.
