HURST — Senior Haylee Bowden slapped a two-run single in the top of the seventh inning to rally Aledo past Denton Guyer 5-4 in Game 1 of a Class 4A regional quarterfinal series Friday at L.D. Bell High School.Game 2 of the best-of-three series is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Bell. Game 3, if necessary, would follow 30 minutes after Game 2. The series was slated to start Thursday but was pushed back after heavy rainfall soaked much of the Fort Worth area.Aledo (26-4) entered the seventh inning trailing 4-2. Megan Mason opened the inning with a single to center. With one out, Kadyn Kirkpatrick reached on an error.Ally Gabbert followed with a run-scoring single to cut the Guyer lead to 4-3. With Aledo down to its final out, Bowden delivered the game-winning hit.Lauren Craine (19-1) earned the victory in a complete-game, five-strikeout effort. Guyer (27-6) had runners on first and second in the bottom of the seventh, but Craine forced Shayne Starkey to ground out to end the game.Starkey (19-5), who pitched a complete game for Guyer, belted a two-out, two-run triple to right in the bottom of the fifth to rally Guyer to a 3-2 lead. Alyssa Dixon followed with a single to left, extending Guyer’s lead to 4-2. The Wildcats struck for four hits and three runs in the frame.It was a pitchers’ duel until Aledo third baseman Riley Sartain crushed a two-out home run to center field in the top of the fourth. The two-run blast broke a scoreless tie.Guyer loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth and got a sacrifice fly from Tatum Branch to cut the Bearcats’ lead to 2-1. But with runners at the corners and two outs, Craine registered her fifth strikeout to end the inning.
