The Energy Future Holdings bankruptcy article (“Bankrupt power company owns businesses worth billions,” May 4) noted “42 percent of residential customers … in the Oncor service area were TXU Energy customers as of September 2013” even though TXU “has leveraged its brand recognition to charge higher prices than newer competitors.”

Why would anyone pay more for electricity because they like the brand?

Electricity is electricity. Brand means nothing.

Some think TXU is more reliable. I know people who have never changed providers.

Because of that, they are paying top rates. But they “trust” TXU.

If Oncor is your delivery company, then that’s where reliability is important, and they are still very reliable.

Just go to the Texas Public Utility website powertochoose.org and see how much you might save, regardless which company you buy from.
