Jason Verrett has no idea where he is headed, but the TCU cornerback promises to look his best getting there.

A custom tailor made Verrett a suit he can’t wait to show off as he walks across the stage at Radio City Music Hall on Thursday when he hopes to be a first-round pick. He refused to offer many details.

“I’m going to be clean,” said Verrett, one of 30 prospects in New York. “You’ll just have to see. It’s nothing fancy. It’s simple, but it’s smooth.”

Verrett became the first TCU player invited to New York since LaDainian Tomlinson in 2001. Tomlinson was the No. 5 overall choice of San Diego.

Jerry Hughes, the 31st overall pick in 2010, is the school’s last first-rounder.

Verrett asked Gary Patterson to attend the draft with him, and the TCU coach is among Verrett’s 10 invited guests.

“He’s one of those guys who really came out of nowhere and made himself into something,” Patterson said.

Verrett visited seven teams, including the Jets, and he worked out for the Carolina Panthers before having shoulder surgery in March.

Although he stands under 5-10, Verrett should go late in the first round with Cincinnati, San Diego, the Jets and New Orleans among the teams that could draft him.

“After the combine, after I showcased everything I could do, I just felt like I put myself for me to be in the first round,” said Verrett, who counts this as his first trip to New York City.

Verrett insists he isn’t nervous. He will listen to his favorite rap music and chill out until his name is called.

“I’m just enjoying it,” he said. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime, so there’s no need to be nervous.”

The best Matthews

Texas A&M offensive tackle Jake Matthews could set a family record as the highest-drafted Matthews.

His grandfather, Clay Matthews Sr., went in the 25th round in 1949. Jake’s uncle, Clay Jr., went 12th overall in 1978. Jake’s father, Bruce, went No. 9 overall in 1983. Jake’s cousin, Clay III, went 26th overall in 2009. Jake’s cousin, Casey, went in the fourth round in 2011. Jake’s older brother, Kevin, went undrafted in 2010 but briefly played in the NFL.

Jake Matthews could go No. 2 overall.

“It’d be awesome,” he said Thursday. “I’m the seventh [Matthews] to get into the NFL, and to know that I’d be the highest pick would be a huge honor, because there is definitely a lot of talent in those six before me.

“To be mentioned with them, and having the same name and coming from the same family, I take a lot of pride in that and want to do the same things they’ve done, because they’re a group of guys who worked hard and did things the right way. I’m trying to do the same thing.”
