“That is no chump change.”

That is what Arlington schools Trustee John Hibbs said following a vote last Thursday to basically refinance a portion of 2006 bonds.

This could save the district about $4 million through 2024.

“One individual ... I wish he was in the room right now and could actually hear this,” Hibbs said.

Hibbs added “this is no chump change” and “this is where you will find that our district is financially sound, fiscally conservative.”

Trustee Tony Pompa said he wants people to understand the district is not extending the debt, but simply refinancing the bonds at a lower rate.

“Since we’ve been talking a lot about the financing of bonds and the cost, for us to refinance these bonds we save the district millions,” Pompa said.

Pompa is specifically talking about the district’s $663.1 million bond package on the May 10 ballot.

What we are still trying to figure out is who that “one individual” is.

You are what you tell people to eat

The Dietary Manager Program at Tarrant County College’s Southeast Campus just got approval from the Association of Nutrition & Foodservice Professionals.

Fifty students are expected to enroll in the fall to receive a certificate of Dietary Manager. From there they can take an exam to become a Certified Dietary Manager.

What that means is: TCC students can complete a nutrition program and eventually tell other people in places like hospitals, retirement homes, schools and jails what to put in their mouths.

Currently, the program is the only accredited dietetic technician education program in the state of Texas.
