Three students in the Mansfield school district have received appointments to U.S. military academies.

Lake Ridge High School senior Jacob Van and Legacy High School senior Christian Oldham have been appointed to the United State Air Force Academy, and Legacy senior Thaddeus Brown IV has been appointed to the United States Naval Academy.

Van is also interested in basketball and music.

Oldham is the son of Edward and Caroline Oldham of Mansfield and has two sisters, Ashley Oldham and Meredith Bell. He is ranked No. 14 in his class and an Eagle Scout. He is currently the co-captain of the Legacy debate team and captain of the Legacy cross country team. He was JROTC Alpha element leader and Civil Air Patrol flight sergeant, and ground team leader.

He serves as usher, pastoral support, sanctuary preparation and children’s worship leader at The Community at Lake Ridge.

Brown, son of Thad and Lisa Brown of Mansfield, is currently near the top of his class, has been in JROTC for four years and has been the battalion commander since his junior year. He is president of the Legacy chapter of the National Honor Society, ran cross country, does volunteer work for Habit for Humanity and is a member of Crossroads Christian Church. He plans to major in Aerospace Engineering and hopes to become a pilot in the United States Marine Corps.
