Three home runs help UT Arlington baseball overwhelm Arkansas-Little Rock

UT Arlington hit three home runs and belted Arkansas-Little Rock 8-3 to clinch the best-of-three Sun Belt Conference baseball series on Sunday.

Levi Scott, John Michael Twichell and Darien McLemore homered as the Mavericks upped their Sun Belt record to 13-11. They are 24-25 for the season.

UTA had two big innings, a four-run fourth inning and a three-run sixth.

Zach Thompson, meanwhile, appeared headed to a complete game until running into trouble in the ninth inning. Thompson pitched 8 1/3 innings, giving up seven hits and three runs.

Ryan Bottger doubled in the fourth. Matt Shortall reached on an error and Greg McCall hit into a fielder’s choice. Twichell had a run-scoring single and Scott belted a three-run home run.

Twichell hit a solo homer in the sixth inning and McLemore later had a two-run shot.
