Texas blanked West Virginia 2-0 in Big 12 baseball on Saturday despite the Mountaineers having 11 hits and reaching base another time on an error.

But West Virginia hit into two double plays and left the bases loaded another time.

The Mountaineers (25-17, 8-8 Big 12) were 0 for 7 with runners in scoring position and stranded 12 runners.

Nathan Thornhill started for Texas (24-14, 11-9) and went four innings. Chad Hollingsworth pitched two innings of relief and John Curtiss pitched three innings.

Elsewhere in Big 12 baseball:

•  Kansas 6, Texas Tech 4: Dakota Smith and Blair Beck each had two RBIs, leading the Jayhawks (29-20, 11-9) over the Red Raiders (36-15, 11-9).

•  Oklahoma 13, Baylor 7: The Sooners (26-22, 6-11) scored eight runs in the fourth inning on the way to beating the Bears (21-17, 6-13).

UTA roundup

• Softball: UT Arlington dropped both games of a Sun Belt doubleheader at Texas State.

The Mavericks (20-31, 4-15 Sun Belt) lost the opener 5-2 and the second game 9-1.

Britnea Barilli went 3-for-4 and Meagan Michele had a solo home run in the opener.

Jasmine Tanksley robbed the Bobcats of a two-run homer run when she caught the ball over the center-field wall.

Marisa Datko hit a solo home run for the Mavericks in the second game.

Ollie, UConn talk

UConn and basketball coach Kevin Ollie are negotiating a new contract extension.

Ollie, who led the Huskies to the national championship last season, is reportedly on the Los Angeles Lakers’ list of potential candidates to replace Mike D’Antoni, who resigned Wednesday.

He has four years remaining on the five-year, $7.5 million contract he signed on Dec. 28, 2012, a deal that added five years onto the original one-season contract signed when he took over for Jim Calhoun on Sept. 13, 2012.

Oregon spring game

Marcus Mariota was sharp in his limited appearance in the Oregon spring game, throwing a pair of first-quarter touchdown passes.

Mariota completed 6 of 7 passes for 100 yards and played in the first three series.
