TCU finished April the way it started the month — by outclassing an intrastate foe on the road.

On April 1, the Horned Frogs traveled 18 miles east and defeated UT Arlington 12-6. On Tuesday night, TCU went a little farther — 194 miles southeast — to secure a 14-4 victory over Stephen F. Austin at Jaycees Field and conclude a nearly flawless month.

The Frogs (31-13), No. 21 in the USA Today coaches’ poll, went 16-1 in April while outscoring their opponents 92-26. Since a 5-1 loss at Kansas in the second game of an April 12 doubleheader, TCU has given up a total of seven runs during its nine-game winning streak.

TCU jumped to a 5-0 lead over the Lumberjacks (17-27) in the first inning, notching their first run when Garrett Crain was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Jerrick Suiter and Dylan Fitzgerald each delivered a two-run double.

The Frogs scratched out four more runs in the sixth inning without mustering an extra-base hit to stretch their lead to 9-1. They scored five times in the ninth, with Fitzgerald delivering an RBI triple and Kyle Bacak and Walter Pennington each driving in a run with a double.

The Frogs resume Big 12 play with a three-game series against Kansas State this weekend at Lupton Stadium. The series opener is at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
