April 21 was the 178th anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto, the decisive battle of the Texas Revolution.

There, Texas Gen. Sam Houston with an army of about 900 defeated the Mexican army under Gen. Antonio López de Santa Anna, forcing him to return to Mexico.

I can only assume that by some twisted concept of political correctness, pages can be devoted to Cinco de Mayo, a celebration of the Mexicans’ victory over the French in a battle in Mexico, but not to the battle in Texas that led to independence.
