Timberview and Legacy swept their bi-district round softball playoff series last week to advance to the area round.Both teams will be back in action this week, although playoff details were unavailable at the print deadline. Timberview will take on Flower Mound Marcus this week after winning two straight over Copperas Cove. Online update: The three-game series with Marcus will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Marcus, Friday at the same time at Timberview, and Saturday at the same time, if necessary, at Marcus.The Lady Wolves posted 13-2 and 7-6 scores to move on in the playoffs.Timberview had the convincing win to open the series but started off slow in the second game. “They played well defensively and it took a while to get going,” said Timberview head coach Donya Mooney. Timberview trailed in the second game until the bottom of the sixth inning when they were able to tie the game at 6-6. Chelsea Luddeke, the freshman third baseman for the Lady Wolves, got on base to lead off the eighth and advanced into scoring position after stealing second.Bailey Higgs then knocked a walk-off triple to win the game and take the series.Mariah Denson added 11 strikeouts in the first game in addition to aiding her own cause with a home run. She added another seven strikeouts in Saturday’s game.Legacy knows its opponent and the format, as they’ll meet Hallsville on Thursday at 7 pm at Forney High School. The second game will be on Friday at the same time and place, with an if-needed third game to be played Saturday at 1 pm.The Lady Broncos took care of Corsicana with 8-6 and 6-1 scores.“You’re always pleased when pitching does such a fantastic job,” said Legacy head coach Michelle Mayfield. “We had some defensive issues but we took care of some things,” she said of the close first game.“Saturday reflected a complete game,” she said of the Lady Broncos’ solid outing. “We hit the ball well.”Ryan Wright had 10 strikeouts in the first game, and Mayfield said the pitcher’s effort was tempered only by the defensive lapses. Kendall Potts came in after four innings in relief and registered five strikeouts of her own.Potts also threw in the second game and picked up the win.Legacy now stands at 24-5 on the season as they head into the series with Hallsville.“It’s a tough next round but we match up well,” said Mayfield. “If we play as we’re capable, we can move on. But it will be a tough test.”• In Class 5A, Mansfield won its one-game playoff against Temple, 1-0, and will now take on Hebron in the area round. Hebron got past Colleyville Heritage in an upset in the bi-district round.
