Wester student qualifies for Nationals

Brooks Wester Middle School student Chase Robinson recently advanced to a national equestrian contest in May, after competing in the IEA Zone 7 Finals held April 5-6 in Amarillo.

Robinson competed against other qualifying students from Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas, and claimed first place.

Robinson participates in the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA).

According to a news release, “Within IEA, students ride horses that are furnished by the host barn and chosen by random draw equalizing competition variables and tests the horsemanship of the contestants. Points are tracked for individual rider accomplishments and for overall, team accomplishments.”

Riders and teams earn points to qualify for regional, zone and national finals.

The victory at zone qualified her for the IEA 2014 Hunt Seat National Finals in Springfield, Mass., from May 16-18.

Lake Ridge player signs to play college ball

The Lake Ridge volleyball team will have its first volleyball signing next at 10 a.m. Wednesday, as Aubrey Johnson will be signing to play at the next level.

The Lake Ridge senior has received a scholarship to play at Jarvis Christian College.

Timberview softball team advances

The Timberview softball team advanced to the second round of the postseason with a 2-0 series victory over Copperas Cove.

The Lady Wolves defeated Cove 13-2 in the first game, with Mariah Denson earning the victory and hitting a home run, and Chelsea Luddeke tripling in the game for Timberview.

In game two, the Lady Wolves won 7-6, with Denson earning the victory and doubling in the game and Baylea Higgs tripling in the game.

Timberview will play Flower Mound Marcus in the area round at a time and location to be determined.

Legacy defeats Corsicana

The Legacy softball team defeated Corsicana in two straight games in the bi-district round of the playoffs to advance to the area round, where it will take on the winner of the Royse City/Hallsville game on May 3 at a time and location to be determined.

Legacy defeated Corsicana 8-6 in the first contest, as Kendall Potts earned the victory and doubled and tripled in the game for the Lady Broncos.

Reagan Wright also tripled for Legacy in the game.

Potts picked up the win in Game 2 as well, and Wright, and Ryan Wright both doubled in the game, while Megan Dake tripled in the game for Legacy.
