As the editor of the local Crowley newspaper for two years I set foot on all but three Crowley ISD campuses to cover various events and I have seen the great work the teachers, administrators and students are accomplishing. At the the same time, I was able to see what necessities teachers are lacking that would help them increase student success and safety. With three children currently attending CISD campuses I have a vested interested in what the school district is doing to create a better learning environment for students and work environment for teachers.

Asset management: With the federal and state mandates, we need to maintain our fiscal responsibility while meeting the needs of our teachers and students in their classrooms and extra-curricular activities.

Educator/Student development: In 2012-13 TEA reported that 19 of the 21 CISD campuses met the standard under the current state ratings system. Two campuses need to be brought up.

Having been in the military, I understand the importance of communication with a team. I will strive to keep the lines of communication open with the community and the school board.

Outline the three most critical problems facing the public office you are seeking and the solutions you propose to address them.

Efficient Spending — It is imperative that CISD efficiently use tax dollars so our schools are properly staffed and can offer teacher raises. Our school district should not have to sacrifice one for the other.

Child Safety — Our district needs a strong safety plan. CISD should implement the school marshal program at each campus. Time is critical. CISD cannot wait for police during an emergency. Marshals gives an immediate response to protect our children. Child safety is worth the money and not something CISD should cut corners on.

Transparency — CISD would benefit from more open lines of communication with the community.

Explain how your background, skills and experience make you the best qualified candidate for this office.

If elected, I would be the only member of the board who can answer for their decisions fifty years from now. Raised by life-long educator, I’m familiar with experience of the teacher and the demands that go beyond curricula. I realize that altruism does not help put food on the table. I worked as an educator advocate and became familiar with the academic, emotional, and fiscal demands inherent in the education of our youth. As a private-sector employee, I recognize and share the benefit and sacrifice of taxing the general public and expect significant returns to the community.

Outline the three most critical problems facing the public office you are seeking and the solutions you propose to address them.

Commercial growth rates teeter on stagnation and could spell the end of rapid growth in our district. While an unorthodox role of a school board trustee, I can promise aggressive networking to edify our district.

Educator market is currently saturated. Education majors are declining. Managing, maintaining, and training quality education will become a greater challenge than most will anticipate. I will deliver on compromise between student benefit, teacher quality, and fiscal responsibility.

Where is student input? All this talk about constituencies in vain if we do not consult the subject of our purpose. Sponsor-led communication from our emerging generation.

I am very involved in the community and see and hear what the residents have to say. My history on the council is very important in understanding where our City has been and the direction we are going now and in the future.

Outline the three most critical problems facing the public office you are seeking and the solutions you propose to address them.

The most critical problems facing the City is maintaining a low tax rate while planning and budgeting for infrastructure improvements needed to attract residents and commercial development. As a Council we need to spend wisely and properly prioritize the projects which have the most beneficial impact to the City. I have and will keep a pulse on the spending of the Council. I have voiced my opinion in raising taxes, which I have been opposed to.

Working within the budget is very tough but necessary. We all have high hopes but limited funds. The City is growing so we are to some degree feeling the growing pains. I will continue to voice my concerns in approving projects that do not directly benefit the citizens.

I have served on the city council since 2011 and have been dealt some pretty bad cards. I feel I am the very best candidate for this office because I am not just a candidate who merely talks well and who promises more that I can deliver to the citizens. I am not out for personal or political gain unlike others are, I am out for the people who deserve to have answers to questions and to feel safe in their home. Outline the three most critical problems facing the public office you are seeking and the solutions you propose to address them.

First and foremost critical problem we have had is dishonesty in our administration with no consequences or accountability, no transparency. The only answer I have to resolve this problem is to have a strong motivational minded person with honesty and integrity who actually cares about the job of Mayor and will enforce accountability and transparency and representing the citizens to keep them safe and our city happy. And with all this I will do.

Education background, including all degrees: Azle High School; CDL License; Traffic Safety Training; Certified A/C Technician; Flagger Safety Training; CPR; Award for 15 years of Dedicated Service; Employee of the Year Award

Highlights of your current and past civic involvement: Previously worked in the Azle community for the past 15 years. Worked to make a difference in the community at my City of Azle job. I developed different skills to complete any task that I was given, as well as having the knowledge and values with the motivation to achieve and make a difference in the Azle community.

Explain how your background, skills and experience make you the best qualified candidate for this office.

I worked for the City of Azle for 15 years and handled/completed many projects, anywhere from drainage, street repair, sign repair, reconstructing or overlaying streets as well as handling citizens concerns or complaints. I am a heavy equipment operator and mechanic. I also had to supervise a total of four people during my employment. I feel my experience that I had with the City of Azle for 15 years has given me the experience as well as the knowledge to be a best qualified candidate for this position on the City Council. I feel that I would be an asset in improving our city and would also be proud to work for the citizens of Pelican Bay.

Outline the three most critical problems facing the public office you are seeking and the solutions you propose to address them.

The first issue I would address would be the streets issue. This has been a problem for awhile now. Most of the streets have pot holes, or just need repair, period. The next issue would be to have some type of animal control within the city; we have so many strays dogs and cats that just wander around the streets of Pelican Bay, which is a problem if they don’t have up to date shots. And the third thing is when Pelican Bay has vehicles towed, they don't need to be stored at the city hall.

I feel I am the best candidate for the seat because I've grown up here experiencing the problems of the city and have spoken to many of the long term residents through the years I have been here. Education background, including all degrees: GED, medical assistant

Highlights of your current and past civic involvement: I am extremely involved in all school activities that my kids take part in. I am an active voice at city council meetings as well as attending city functions. The main problem with trying to be active in the community is that certain members of council try to take control of the functions in an attempt to get some sort of personal gain out of it. No matter if their personal agenda ignores the needs and desires of the community, the control the functions their way. It is time that we put unity back into the community.

Explain how your background, skills and experience make you the best qualified candidate for this office.

I have never held public office before. I don’t have a college education and sometimes I am not always “politically” correct. But what does qualifies me to be on council is my ability to set aside my personal opinions and listen to the community. It is time that the needs of one person takes a backseat to the needs of the community. This community has suffered setbacks because the council cannot work together and look at the greater good of Pelican Bay citizens. I will give this community a voice, and I will listen.

Outline the three most critical problems facing the public office you are seeking and the solutions you propose to address them.

Deciding on the three most critical issues is difficult, there are many needs. First, there has to be activities for the youth of the city, bring them together with projects that will benefit the city and themselves. Second, public safety is lacking behind in not only manpower but funding. There has to be a council-wide effort to find ways to increase police and fire protection. Finally, putting together a proper budget that can give the city a chance to rebuild not only infrastructure, but reputation as well.

1.Old failing houses. Many of our homes are rental property and the owners have little concern for their condition. They must be made aware of their responsibility for maintaining these houses.

2.Many of our streets are in bad condition. A program will be developed that will address the monetary needs in upgrading all of our city streets.

3. The economic strength of our city must be addressed. We are located in a prime area to attract visitors but lack appeal. With the help of NCTCOG in identifying sources and our own internal efforts we can make the change.

Like most cities our utilities and roads are a major problem. At this time we are working on a schedule to complete water and sewer line, and road replacement. We will use the funds we must hold in reserve and what we are paying on the bonds at this time to do the repairs without increasing taxes or raising rates.

Employee health insurance is another major issue we are facing. We are working with our insurance agency to come up with the best solution.

Every time I go into city hall there is someone there waiting to pick up a check. Many have made their living off the less affluent. Important people elected and non elected have the perception that less affluent communities are unable to pay for the services they require. Our community pays its way. Real Leadership is what we are lacking. I intend to re-allocate resources that have been misplaced by popular trends. We will reposition key personnel and give them the tools they need to do their job, The true cost of doing business is lost in the fog of fuzzy math and self serving accounting principles. we will put a true balance sheet into effect. well trained people are an asset to any organization. we will train our people and give them the pride of ownership as it relates to our community and the job they do.
