My experience in business has provided many opportunities for continued growth in leadership and development roles. My career path has taken me from an a part-time entry level position to my current role as a division director. I have participated in managing periods of growth and decline in my industry. I have led numerous projects that included internal employees from various departments as well as those from sister companies.

Outline the three most critical problems facing the public office you are seeking and the solutions you propose to address them.

I believe our school system must maintain a vision that exceeds timing of population growth within the district boundaries. This can be achieved with an on-going working relationship and programs with community entities and leaders.

Additionally, I see the need to continue providing the means and support to our educators as teaching and instruction methods and resources change. One example, is further adapting to growing digital use in academics.

Lastly, I see district finances as a priority and will work towards appropriate tax rates and corresponding budgets that meet needs for all.

As a soon to be father of two, I have a vested interest to see that BISD is the best it can be. I know what healthy financial statements look like and will insure our tax dollars are spent in the most productive manner. My unique perspective will help position the district to address the current needs of the students in school and the future skills that they will need once out of school. In watching my wife, I have seen first-hand the dedication it takes to teach children new concepts. Teachers need school board members that support them.

Outline the three most critical problems facing the public office you are seeking and the solutions you propose to address them.

Continued financial responsibility is paramount to the future success of BISD. We owe it to our tax payers to use their money productively and efficiently. As new technology becomes more readily available and universally accepted, we too should adapt our learning methods. Project based learning and technologically integrated classrooms are essential to the progress of our students. With an ever increasing emphasis put on standardized testing, it is imperative that we not only teach children how to pass a test but how to learn in such a way that they are able to apply their knowledge in everyday life.

Explain how your background, skills and experience make you the best qualified candidate for this office.

I have been active in the field of education for over 20 years, and I am extremely passionate about what I do. After 15 years in the K-12 setting and earning my Ph.D., I moved to higher education. In this role, I help prepare students to become classroom teachers as well as work with graduate students. I have visited hundreds of classrooms across the U.S. and abroad, focusing on best practice and teacher evaluation. In addition, I have presented at state, national, and international conferences and worked with individual districts to create positive learning opportunities for all students that we serve.

Outline the three most critical problems facing the public office you are seeking and the solutions you propose to address them.

First, I will advocate for increases in teacher pay. Other districts have significantly higher salaries, and to retain the best teachers we need to be competitive. Second, learning opportunities that make our students competitive in the 21st Century are imperative. This includes the effective integration of technology, creative problem-solving, and leadership opportunities. This requires proper training and support. Third, we need to focus on learning environments that support the needs of all learners. This is challenging when the focus has come down to a single test score. Additional ways to evaluate student achievement and teacher effectiveness need to be explored.

I bring proven relationship building and leadership skills with the ability to motivate people to work together for a common cause. My past experience as a board member also helps makes me the best qualified candidate for this office.

Outline the three most critical problems facing the public office you are seeking and the solutions you propose to address them.

The most important issue is remembering our children come first, and we must constantly work to provide a safe and effective learning environment for every child in the district.

It is vitally important that we do everything possible to keep our district teachers in the classroom, and provide them the resources they need to maintain the highest academic standards for the benefit of all our children. This also includes continuing the process of addressing salary issues for teachers and employees in the district.

As Burleson continues to grow, responsible growth management will be a priority, including out-of-the-box thinking to address needs with specific plans to relieve overcrowded facilities, especially our middle school campuses.

I have a proven record of public service on the City Council and have always worked hard to make sure Burleson citizens know my priorities and vision for the future. During the time I have served on the council, by working together, we have achieved smart growth, improved efficiency and transparency, built great neighborhoods, revitalized Old Town, experienced unprecedented economic growth, vastly expanded our parks, lowered the crime rate and expanded higher education opportunities. In addition, my service as Executive Director of Safe City Commission, the primary crime prevention agency for the Tarrant County region, and in numerous regional leadership roles has given me important insight into critical issues we face in Burleson and as a region.

Outline the three most critical problems facing the public office you are seeking and the solutions you propose to address them.

Our greatest challenges relate to our growth. We will continue to grow at a fast pace, so it is critical that we plan properly to maintain critical public safety, public works and transportation infrastructure to ensure that quality of life doesn’t diminish as we grow. We also have to recognize we are impacted by the growth and increasing traffic problems of the region and must work with other cities to improve mobility for the entire region. No doubt, growth comes with its headaches, but we can also realize benefits in the form of greater consumer choices, more jobs and a diverse tax base so long as we plan well and make wise choices.
