The Fort Worth school district has agreed to host the TCU men’s and women’s basketball teams at the Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center for the 2014-15 season, FWISD spokesman Clint Bond said Thursday. Both teams will play their home games at the 4,759-seat arena while Daniel-Meyer Coliseum undergoes renovations, which have already begun. Wilkerson-Greines, at 5201 CA Roberson Blvd., is about a 15-minute drive from TCU’s campus.Bond said he doesn’t foresee any additional seating being added to the arena.Daniel-Meyer had a capacity of around 7,200. The men’s team averaged 4,955 for home games last season, while the women drew 2,190.Wilkerson-Greines was scheduled to host the Class 5A Region I tournament in February, but flood damage to the court forced the UIL to move the tournament to TCU. A new floor at Wilkerson-Greines will be installed this summer to meet collegiate standards, which include certain padding beneath the court and built-in electrical conduits for television and shot clock operations, Bond said. The school district is seeking bids for the project. “We were already in negotiations with TCU about what we were going to do [when the flooding occurred],” Bond said. “We found out inadvertently that we were going to have to replace the floor anyway.”Daniel-Meyer will re-open in 2015 after a $45 million facelift.Upgrades to the 53-year-old arena will include lowering the court 3 to 5 feet to improve sight lines and widening the concourse. The façade of the building will be given an art deco style to match Amon G. Carter Stadium and much of the other buildings on campus.
