Outfielder Daniel Robertson was a member of the El Paso Chihuahuas on Tuesday afternoon, playing a Triple A game in Las Vegas. On Wednesday, he had gone from the doghouse to the penthouse as a member of the Rangers’ active roster.

The Rangers struck a minor-league trade with San Diego, then purchased Robertson’s contract and flew him to O.Co Coliseum. He is seeking his major-league debut after spending six years in the Padres’ organization.

“It’s every kid’s dream,” Robertson said. “You don’t really know how you’re going to feel. I don’t know if it’s sunk in yet, just because I haven’t been able to sleep. I’m pretty sure it’ll sink in as soon as my cleats hit the dirt.”

Manager Ron Washington plans to use Robertson, a speedy right-handed hitter, primarily as a pinch-runner and pinch-hitter. But the primary reason he was acquired was to help restore some depth after injuries and trades the past few seasons have thinned out the farm system.

Brad Snyder and Bryan Petersen are left-handed-hitting outfielders at Round Rock.

“This was an opportunity to build the depth in our organization,” assistant general manager Thad Levine said. “We still regard the players at Triple A as real depth, but this was an opportunity to add another layer.”
