Zach Johnson, the No. 12 player in the world golf rankings and a two-time winner of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, is among the latest group of golfers to commit to compete in Fort Worth’s annual PGA Tour event, May 19-25.

Johnson, the Colonial champ in 2012 and 2010, joined Tim Clark and Harris English as fresh commitments released Monday by tournament officials. Johnson, 38, has finished ninth or higher in each of the last five Colonials, including a third-place finish last year. His addition means Colonial has landed three of the top 12 golfers in the world rankings, with Johnson joining Matt Kuchar (No. 5), Sunday’s winner at the RBC Heritage, and Jordan Speith (No. 7), a Dallas resident who was the runner-up at the 2014 Masters.

Clark finished as a Colonial runner-up in consecutive years (2008, 2009), including a playoff loss to 2009 champ Steve Stricker. He ranks sixth in career earnings at Colonial ($1,606,114). English tied for fifth at the 2012 Colonial, his top finish in Fort Worth.

Michael Tothe, Colonial tournament director, said Monday he has had recent discussions with representatives of Adam Scott, the No. 2 player in the world rankings and the 2013 Masters champ, about returning to Fort Worth this year. But there has been no official commitment.

Tothe also said officials are waiting for ballots from past winners that will determine this year’s Champions’ Choice invitees for the event. Among the golfers under consideration are Alex Carpenter, a former Abilene Christian standout, and Jeff Curl, son of 1974 Colonial champ Rod Curl.
