Adrian Beltre has been placed on the disabled list, the Texas Rangers announced minutes before Sunday’s game began. They had to make the move in order to clear a spot on the active roster for right-hander Hector Noesi, acquired Saturday in a trade from Seattle.

Beltre, who is sidelined with tightness in his left quad, will be eligible to return on April 24. The Rangers are off that day, though, so the earliest he’d return to the lineup is April 25 at Seattle.

Beltre left last Tuesday’s game in Boston with the injury. He went through a basic workout Saturday, but rain prevented him from going through another workout Sunday. It’s Beltre’s first disabled list stint since 2011.

Kevin Kouzmanoff has been starting at third base in Beltre’s place. Josh Wilson is another option at third base, as well as Donnie Murphy.

Noesi, meanwhile, gives the Rangers another arm in the bullpen and is expected to serve as the team’s long man.
