WICHITA FALLS — The Class 4A Region I semifinals were a stopping point for Fort Worth North Side once again.El Paso Andress’ Brandon Bautista scored twice in a five-minute span to lift the Eagles to a 2-0 victory Friday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.Andress (19-8) advances to Saturday’s 1:30 p.m. regional final and will face Trophy Club Nelson, which beat Amarillo. North Side ends its season at 23-6-1.The Steers have been eliminated in the regional semifinals three times in the past eight years. After scoring 17 goals in their first four playoff victories, they managed little offensively against Andress until it was too late.“It was just one of those days I guess,” North Side coach Garth Briggeman said. “It’s unfortunate that it’s happened to us three times here.”Bautista’s first goal came with 1:30 before intermission in a half that Andress dominated. The senior’s harmless shot from 15 yards out was right at David Guerrero’s feet, but the North Side goalie couldn’t stop it.Bautista scored in the 43rd minute with a diving header after Joshua Morales delivered an accurate cross.“The two cardinal sins of soccer — don’t give up a goal in the last five minutes or the first five minutes — and we did both,” Briggeman said. “The first half was one of the worst halves we’ve played all year. We were missing that little spark, that ball to go into the net.”North Side’s Jose Fernandez hit the post in the 47th minute, while Cristian Navarro had good looks on two free kicks in the final 12 minutes. Andress, which was fourth in its district, stood its ground.
